The owners of this old hop kiln wished to convert it into holiday accommodation for their family. Keeping true to the rural industrial ethic the conversion uses readily available materials - plywood, gangnail trusses, aluminium joinery, steel section, radiata posts and rough sawn weatherboards to create a new life for a piece of rural history.
Magnificently sited on a ridge looking down across the hop gardens below to Mt Arthur in the west, the original building is beautifully proportioned and well suited to the 4 living spaces created within. The kiln tower has been set up as a kitchen/dining room below where the furnace once was while the old drying area above is now sleeping space. What was the barn for incoming and outgoing hops has been converted to living space, bathroom and laundry below and sleeping/living and bathroom above.
