Nelson Central School is a state-funded, bi-lingual, inner-city primary school with a current roll of 472 students. The roll is projected to increase to approximately 700 students, and the master plan was developed to guide the school towards a cohesive and comprehensive staged development.
The site posed unique challenges including functional issues stemming from incremental infill development and significant changes in elevation across the site, as well as nationally registered heritage buildings. The master plan addressed these issues, finding unexpected opportunities for connection in areas initially deemed problematic for the school.
