Located on the family farm, this rural house was designed for a couple and their oversees guests.
Inspired by the typical New Zealand vernacular, two strong gable forms wrap around an existing tree to the north west. They are emphasised by flat roofed forms housing the entry and service wing.
As the heart of the house, the kitchen, dining & living are celebrated with a high pitched, T&G lined ceiling looking to the north through the glazed gable. In counterpoint to this space, the lounge has a much lower profile, creating a feeling of coziness.
Red brick walls extend from the ground, anchoring the building to the landscape and bringing warmth to the crisp white gables. Verandas and pergolas encircle the house creating a series of outdoor spaces.
