Located on a 770m² flat site in Christchurch and surrounded by existing homes, this project aims to maximise the irregularly shaped site, while creating privacy from the street and prioritising north sun. Utilising natural materials such as locally crafted brick and timber, the two story -four bedroom house incorporates warm roof technology and passive design principles to ensure the living environment is warm, dry and quiet. The project explores the properties and limitations of brick with the use of curves, screens, brick slips and laying patterns to add depth and a dynamic movement to the facades.
